What to expect

This two-part course is designed for those who want to explore ceramics without the pressure of the potter’s wheel. Using a combination of mould-based forming and traditional hand-building techniques, you will create a piece that feels both structured and personal. The process draws from one of the oldest approaches to working with clay — building with soft coils and shaping by hand. It’s rhythmic, tactile, and naturally absorbing. The kind of making that quiets the mind while keeping the hands engaged. In the first session, we focus on form. You will shape your piece using a plaster mould as a starting point, then refine and build into it using hand-formed elements. In the second session, we shift to surface. Once your piece has settled, you will return to decorate it using colour and simple mark-making techniques that bring the form to life. No prior experience is needed. The structure of the sessions allows for a high level of guidance while still leaving space for individual expression.
