What to expect

If you’re looking for a hands-on experience and a chance to explore the tactile qualities of clay and throwing on the potter’s wheel, this taster session offers a focused and engaging introduction. This session is primarily about experiencing the potter’s wheel — learning how the clay responds to your hands, how to centre and shape it, and how small adjustments affect form. It’s an introduction to the physical language of wheel-throwing, guided step by step, with plenty of time to practice and ask questions. Most participants will make one or two small pots during the session. Selected pieces can be kept, glazed, and fired for an additional £5 per piece, allowing you to take home a finished ceramic object made entirely by you. Glazing and firing are optional and explained at the end of the session. Colour and Clay supports long-term mentoring for neurodivergent young adults committed to their art practice. Public programmes sustain this work.

Our Advice: *Please note: long finger nails would stop you from enjoying your time on the wheel as this involves working with the finger tips. *You may want to wear clothes you don't mind getting messy, however, touch free plastic, single use aprons will be provided and clay comes out of clothes. *Collect your works no later than 14 days after you have been notified that your pieces have been fired, otherwise we will sadly have to dispose of them.
