What to expect
This 5-week course offers a clear and enjoyable introduction to the potter’s wheel — designed for those who would like to go beyond a one-off experience and begin building real confidence. Rather than covering everything at once, we focus on what matters most: learning how to centre, open, and shape clay on the wheel with guidance throughout. To keep the experience fluid and rewarding, we simplify some of the more technical studio processes. This allows you to spend your time where it counts — developing control, understanding movement, and creating forms that feel good to hold and use. Over the course, you’ll work through two essential form families: Bowls — developing control, balance, and consistency Handle-free vessels — cups, beakers, and small forms designed to be held comfortably in the hand The teaching is hands-on and supportive throughout, helping you move past common sticking points and build confidence week by week. By the end of the course, you’ll have: • A solid foundation in wheel throwing • A small collection of finished ceramic pieces • A clear sense of how the wheel works and how you’d like to continue Your final pieces will be selected from your best work and professionally finished, ready for collection a few weeks after the course. For those who wish to continue, this course naturally leads into our 8-week Beginner Wheel-Throwing Course, where we go further into technique, independence, and working within a full studio environment.

Our Advice: *Please note: long finger nails would stop you from enjoying your time on the wheel as this involves working with the finger tips. *You may want to wear clothes you don't mind getting messy, however, touch free plastic, single use aprons will be provided and clay comes out of clothes. *Collect your works no later than 14 days after you have been notified that your pieces have been fired, otherwise we will sadly have to dispose of them.
